Stephen Fry and Richard Osman cast in Danger Mouse reboot

Osman will join his Pointless co-star Alexander Armstrong in the studio when the classic children's show returns to CBBC next year

There could be some quizzing going on between takes when the stars of the new Danger Mouse reboot gather together to record their parts. Pointless star Alexander Amstrong – who is set to voice the mouse secret agent formerly played by David Jason – will be joined by his co-host Richard Osman and QI question master Stephen Fry.

Fry will take on the role of Danger Mouse’s spy boss Colonel K, who was originally voiced by The Archers’ Edward Kelsey, while Osman will play jellyfish scientist Professor Strontium Jellyfishowitz, when the update of the classic children’s cartoon comes to CBBC next year.

Kevin Eldon will take over voicing duties for Danger Mouse’s timid assistant Penfold, who was first bought to life by the late Terry Scott, with Ed Gaughan playing all-important villain Baron Silas Greenback and Dave Lamb – of Channel 4’s Come Dine With Me – narrating.

Shauna MacDonald (Hemlock Grove), Morwenna Banks (Shameless, Skins) and Kayvan Novak (Facejacker) are also lined up to voice characters.

The original Danger Mouse ran for 10 series and 162 episodes on ITV between 1981 and 1992.

Danger Mouse will return with 52 episodes in 2015
