I’m a Celebrity’s Michael Buerk: I regret not pushing Jimmy Savile off the QE2

The former BBC newsreader says he shared a voyage with the former Radio 1 DJ whom he "personally disliked intensely before everyone else did"

It’s not the first time a campmate has rued a decision from their past on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! but Michael Buerk’s revelation last night that he wishes he had pushed Jimmy Savile off the QE2 may be one of the strangest.

It all began when the contestants turned their attention to life’s regrets, with the BBC newsreader admitting he wished he hadn’t tracked down his bigamist father after his mother died when he was just 16. “I didn’t really know very much about [what he was really like] and if she had lived just a few more years I would have learned a great deal more,” he said.

But as the campmates switched their attention to Kendra Wilkinson, Michael suddenly remembered another morsel of remorse, this time regarding Savile, the former Radio 1 DJ and serial sex offender who died in 2011.

He told the camp: “My other regret is standing at the rail of the QE2 with Jimmy Savile, who I personally disliked intensely before everyone else did, and my regret is not tipping him over the rail while I had the chance!”
