Strictly Come Dancing: the best moments from the Blackpool Tower Ballroom

Ann Widdecombe in feathered canary yellow, Susanna Reid in a full-on flamenco and full marks from the judges...

Strictly Come Dancing is packing up and heading north to the hallowed dance floor of the famous Blackpool Tower Ballroom this weekend.

It’s a big night in the SCD calendar, famous for spectacular showstoppers and game-changing performances.

If we’re lucky we might get a few performances like these Strictly classics…

Susanna Reid’s stormy-faced, traditional Paso Doble blew the judges away last year and secured her a place as a front-runner in the competition. Ole!

A gold-trousered Anton du Beke dragged a feathered, canary yellow Ann Widdecombe around the famous Blackpool ballroom with gay abandon back in 2010. What a sight.

Ali Bastian’s 2009 Blackpool performance was a beautiful and elegant Viennese Waltz, which earned her the first full marks of the series from the hard-to-please judges. And talking of those elusive 40 points, four 10s are yet to appear from the judging panel this year. Could Blackpool be the week it happens?

OK, we’re cheating a little here. This was technically performed at Wembley, but still deserves a mention as it’s possibly one of Strictly Come Dancing’s finest moments. Russell Grant being fired out of a canon at the start of his jubilant jive proves that just about anything can happen when Strictly leaves the studio behind…

Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 7:00pm on BBC1
