Last year’s X Factor champion Sam Bailey will return to the Wembley stage this year to perform on a Sunday night’s results show, a gig that comes with a fair bit of expectation.
“It’s going to be a lot of pressure on me,” Bailey tells RadioTimes.com. “Because obviously everyone’s going to want to scrutinize it and say, ‘Well, this year’s contestants are better than her’ because it’s so close to home.”
It’s a popular slot with One Direction, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and more chart toppers – including X Factor’s own Cheryl Fernandez-Versini – having already performed on the show.
“I am absolutely bobbing it,” Bailey adds, who will tour her Power of Love album early next year having recently released her Daring to Dream autobiography. While Bailey was unable to confirm which show she’d appear on, she’s certainly looking to enjoy herself.
“I’m having fun. I’ll be going on that stage – having Simon in front of me will be a bit weird – but yeah, it’ll be good.”
Now half way through the series, Bailey gave us her report on how each of the acts are doing. But if she’s asked by host Dermot O’Leary who her favourite is, she plans to be diplomatic.
“I’ll say ‘Can I say two?’” telling us that she would love to see Stereo Kicks and Ben Haenow in the final.
“Then again, they might not be in the competition by then,” Bailey warns, after one of her other favourites, Paul Akister, was voted out on last Saturday’s show.
But Bailey herself knows that the backing of a guest can do wonders.
“Robbie Williams came on and said he was voting for Sam Bailey [last year]. My phone went absolutely mental. I had to change my number twice.”
