First-look at Louise Brealey in Ripper Street series three

The Sherlock actress joins the cast of the Amazon Prime Instant Video crime drama as Dr Amelia Frayn

We were already excited about Ripper Street series three before the addition of Louise Brealey earlier this year. Now, we simply can’t wait…

The Sherlock actress is playing Dr Amelia Frayn in the Victorian crime drama, axed by the BBC last December before it was revived by Amazon Prime Instant Video earlier this year.

So, what can we tell you about her character? Well, Amelia’s certainly not decked out in the fineries favoured by Long Susan (MyAnna Buring) and Rose Erskine (Charlene McKenna). “I’m dressed very soberly and the other girls are all so ravishing. I’m like a little Jenny Wren. Literally, where are my pretty feathers?!” jokes Brealey.

And she’s gone for a change of hair colour…

Amelia is overseeing the Obsidian Clinic – set up by Long Susan Hart who inherited heaps of cash from the late Silas Duggan – where a new generation of eager, young nurses are to be trained.

She’s got a snazzy desk, too – I tried it out on set in Dublin earlier this year…

As one of the first female doctors, Amelia was a pioneer – and, based on the first two episodes, she’s got the people skills to match her medical prowess.

For a first glimpse of Dr Amelia Frayn in action, sign up for a 30-day trial of Amazon Prime Instant Video and watch a double bill of the first and second episodes, with a further six episodes to be released weekly every Friday

And, in the meantime, here’s the latest trailer (although no footage of Louise just yet):
