Hail to the king, baby. Horror movie franchise The Evil Dead is being brought back as a television series, with both the original director and star attached.
Titled Ash Vs. Evil Dead, it will see Bruce Campbell’s chin continue the fight against Deadites that began back in 1981. Since then, Ash has travelled back in time and had his hand replaced by a chainsaw, while the character (and actor) have become cult-cultural touchstones.
Starz, the American network responsible for shows like Outlander, has ordered 10 episodes to be shown in 2015. Original director Sam Raimi (Spider-man) will return to executive produce, as well as direct the pilot. The series appears to ignore the movie reboot in 2013. Groovy.
Here’s the sell from the network (but if you’re reading this story, you probably don’t need it):
“Bruce Campbell will be reprising his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons – personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its ‘Evil’ grip.”
Evil Dead joins an almost endless line-up of movies being resurrected on television, including Big and Limitless.
