Why Simon Cowell should do I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

You “can’t pretend” in the jungle and a stint Down Under would let us see the real Simon Cowell, says Get Me Out Of Here Now! co-host Laura Whitmore

Every year there are plenty of celebrities linked to jungle-themed reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! but it seems presenter Laura Whitmore thinks we’re missing one person.

“I’d love to see someone maybe like Simon Cowell,” Whitmore tells RadioTimes.com ahead of her journey Down Under to co-host ITV2 spin-off I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here Now!

“I wonder what he’d be like in that situation?” Whitmore ponders of the X Factor judge, adding that she loves how the Ant and Dec-fronted show makes you see what the real person is like.

“I loved Kian Egan who won last year. He did a show in Ireland, The Voice of Ireland, he’s a judge and he’s quite Simon Cowell-esque – he can be quite strict and can be a bit of a meanie. So when I saw him in the jungle and he was this hero, so nice to all of the girls and helped them all along, I thought that’s the real Kian. I love that the show makes you see that and you can’t pretend.

“Sometimes Kian has to be the mean guy on this other show that he does, but I was like, so this is the real him,” Whitmore adds.

Cowell presumably hasn’t shown any desire to enter the jungle and do his bit around the campfire as a contestant, but co-host Joe Swash says it’s not really about the names anyway.

“It’s the personality. I don’t think it matters how big you are or how famous you are. People surprise you. The people that you expect to be amazing are overshadowed by the people you think aren’t going to be amazing,” Swash explains.

Not that the former EastEnders star, who himself won the show in 2008, hasn’t got his own campmate ideas. “I like the blasts from the past, like maybe the Chuckle Brothers.”

But alas, the presenters have no say. “They don’t even ask us who we’d like,” laughs Whitmore. And don’t think she’ll ever be signing up…

“No because I get paid to stay in a nice hotel and do nice things. I myself was shocked when I first got there. How real it is and how tough they are on the celebs.”

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! returns Sunday 16 November at 9pm on ITV and Get Me Out Of Here Now! at 10:40pm on ITV2
