Jai Sharma is to be reunited with his son next week, but a big question mark will be left hanging over the whereabouts of Archie’s mum Rachel.
Jai will be seen following up a lead on his missing son and spotting Archie in a car. But before he can get to him, the car is driven away.
A man nearby tells Jai that Rachel is in trouble and needs £60,000 to go into rehab – if Jai can hand over the money, then he can have Archie.
“Jai’s an emotional mess after seeing Archie,” says actor Chris Bisson. “He even does a deal with a devil by asking Rakesh to come up with the money to get Archie back immediately. But in the process, he hasn’t thought about the consequences or Rachel’s welfare. His focus is purely on getting Archie back.”
The trouble is that Jai’s cover story about Rachel having agreed to part company with Archie doesn’t add up in the eyes of some villagers. So pretty soon, Ali is asking questions about Jai’s actions and the police are also getting involved.
“Jai gets worried because the chain of events doesn’t necessarily make sense and he’s covering parts of the story up. He’s manipulating the truth, so he’s naturally concerned when the police arrive,” continues Bisson.
And does Jai care about what has happened to Rachel – after all we have seen a darker and more ruthless side to his character of late, what with him recently taking Charity captive? “Jai’s been searching for his son for a long time. He’s hardened and toughened and he doesn’t really care about Rachel because he’s now got what’s most important to him.
“For Jai, having to lie to the police and fob Ali off is nothing compared to what it means to him to get his son back. Jai is prepared to do a lot these days, as we’ve seen. All he’s ever wanted is to get Archie back. However, it’ll never run smoothly. If it did, Jai could actually be a nice person again!”
