Coronation Street spoilers: mini-bus crash to leave residents fighting for their lives

Steve McDonald will be behind the wheel as a day out for the staff of Underworld goes horribly wrong

A works’ outing for the staff of Underworld is to end in tragedy in early 2015 when they’re involved in an horrific mini-bus crash.

Disaster will strike this winter when a Street Cars mini-bus, driven by Steve McDonald, will crash and leave some of the Street’s favourite residents fighting for their lives.

The stunt is to be filmed before Christmas and screened in the new year. Exact details are being kept under wraps but more than one character will be hospitalised as a result of the crash and one Underworld knicker stitcher’s life will be on the line. Show bosses are promising fans “a high-octane start to 2015”.

Producer Stuart Blackburn hinted last week that the current storyline which sees Steve suffering with depression will take a dramatic turn in 2015: “It will come to a head in January where a tragedy will strike that will force him to face up to those demons.”

Coronation Street has a long history of vehicular stunts over the course of its 54-year history: the move to colour transmissions in 1969 was marked by the fall-out from a coach crash, while 2010’s 50th anniversary saw a tram smash on to the Street.
