It’s time to dig out your Walkman from the back of your cupboard (or if you ditched it years ago, go out and buy another) because Guardians of the Galaxy’s awesome soundtrack is getting a re-release on cassette.
It will mark the first time Disney have released a music cassette since 2003, with the newest version of the soundtrack to be issued on 17 November, according to Billboard. The limited edition cassette will be available to buy from all independent retailers associated with Record Store Day until 31 December, with each product also containing a digital download of the version.
For those who haven’t seen Marvel’s superhero blockbuster, you should know that this is so much more than a soundtrack. The mix tape plays a key role in the film, carried around in Peter Quill’s Walkman, a final gift from the character’s late mother.
Awesome Mix Vol.1 is packed full of hits from the likes of Marvin Gaye, David Bowie and Blue Swede, with the CD, vinyl and digital release reaching number two in the UK’s compilation chart and landing the number one spot on the US album chart.
Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel and more, and earned rave reviews from critics, becoming Marvel’s third highest grossing movie of all time, behind The Avengers and Iron Man 3. A sequel was confirmed in July 2014, with writer and director James Gunn back on board ahead of a 28th July 2017 release date.
