Tonight this year’s four wildcards were revealed as the final twelve became the final sixteen.
It was done a little differently in 2014, with judges Simon Cowell, Mel B, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Louis Walsh choosing each other’s wildcards for the first time ever.
Here’s how it played out:
Simon chose Jack Walton for Mel’s Boys’ category
What a ruddy good choice that was. Mel herself said at Judges’ Houses that sending Jack home was the “toughest decision” she had to make. “You’re from my hometown, I feel like I know you, I adore you…” she said. Jack himself told host Dermot O’Leary, “I’d love to be able to prove to her that I am [ready].” And now he can!
Re-live his first audition:
Mel picked Overload for Louis Walsh’s Groups’ category
Well, this is a turn up for the books. Not only could Mel choose Louis’ wildcard, she could pick from anyone that was sat in a chair during this year’s Six Chair Challenge. So, having not made it to Judges’ Houses, boy band Overload are now part of Louis’ top four. They certainly will be a popular choice, with a lot of fans already making themselves known on social media. And the lads made themselves known at Boot Camp, calling for a sing-off when it looked like they were going home.
Here’s their first audition:
Louis chose Lola for Cheryl’s Girls’ category
Louis Walsh has given 20-year-old fishmonger Lola a lifeline after Cheryl had to say goodbye to her at this year’s Judges’ Houses. Her nerves appeared to get the better of her with Cheryl admitting, “She’s so overwhelmed.” The Girls’ mentor also admitted that Lola’s “a very nice girl, people want her to win.” Could Louis have picked Cheryl a winner?

Cheryl picked Stevi Ritchie for Simon’s Overs category
Ah, Stevi Ritchie. What fun he’s going to be in the live shows. He forgot his words in his first audition, grabbed an audience member up to dance at the arenas and guest judge Sinitta looked like she didn’t quite know what was going on at Judges’ Houses… but he’s made it. Could Stevi go all the way to the final? Time will tell…
