The BBC has released new images and a trailer showing the staff of the emergency department at Holby saying goodbye to their friend and colleague Jeff Collier (Matt Bardock) at his funeral.
In scenes to be shown on Saturday 11 October, a couple of old faces – including Jeff’s nephew Jamie (Daniel Anthony) – will return for the service, which proves to be an emotionally draining day for most. Ash can’t help but feel guilty about his colleague’s death, Dixie throws herself into work, while Cal worries when Ethan disappears from his hospital bed to attend the funeral.
Speaking to RadioTimes.com about the episode, a show insider said: “Jeff’s death has a huge impact on the team at the ED – they can’t believe he’s gone. They all struggle with their grief differently and some with guilt, while Connie tries to hold everyone together. The funeral is really emotional and Dixie isn’t sure if she can face going…”
Viewers of last week’s episode saw paramedic Jeff killed off after seven years’ service when he was engulfed in a fireball caused by an exploding car.
Executive producer Oliver Kent said recently of Jeff’s exit: “Matt Bardock has given us one of Casualty’s all-time favourite characters and we are sad to see him go. Jeff Collier has been an iconic action hero for seven years and we have been so lucky to have had him on our team for so long. We wish him all the very best for the future.”
