Arthur Darvill is no stranger to treading the boards, but this Christmas he’ll make his National Theatre debut as Long John Silver in a new adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island.
Darvill recently appeared in the West End musical hit Once, as well as – among others – starring in Doctor Faustus at Shakespeare’s Globe.
Doctor Who fans will know Darvill as playing Amy Pond’s husband Rory Williams and he’ll be back on our TV screens for the second series of Broadchurch, expected next year.
Bryony Lavery, best-known for her 1998 award-winning play Frozen, is adapting Treasure Island, while Polly Findlay (who directed War Horse in Berlin) will direct.
The play opens at the Olivier Theatre on 10 December 2014, with the cast also including Daniel Coonan and Claire-Louise Cordwell (Hampstead Theatre’s Ecstasy) and Nick Fletcher (Young Vic).
