If you’ve had fun with First Dates in the past, you’re in luck – the Channel 4 series is coming back.
A new 12-part run of the fixed camera dating show will return to its central London restaurant location to spy on more couples as they encounter each other for the first time over drinks and dinner – and then give their honest assessments of one another and the evening.
Now in its third series, First Dates is the show that brought us such real-life characters as womanising DJ Terry “Turbo” and almost-but-not-quite couple Dan and Sarah, who bonded over their love of avant garde heavy metal before falling at the last hurdle.
Several of those stars made more than one appearance and it’s possible that regular viewers might see some familiar faces again. But there’s also a chance for new lonelyhearts to get involved as Channel 4 is now inviting applications via the website www.channel4.com/firstdates.
“We’ll be looking for single people of any age, gender and background who want to find Mr or Ms Right,” said Nicola Lloyd, series editor at production company Twenty Twenty. “14,000 applicants applied for the last series and our team will once again take a fine-toothed comb to put together memorable and, hopefully, long-lasting pairings.”
The first two series of the show came in eight helpings but when First Dates returns it will be in an extended form. “A 12-episode commission is a big vote of confidence from Channel 4 for both us and the programme,” said Twenty Twenty CEO Tim Carter. “We are thrilled to have another opportunity to present more stories of love and heartbreak from the First Dates restaurant.”
Filming on First Dates will begin in the New Year with the series set to air later in 2015.
