Twilight is coming back!
The young adult saga, which bewitched the world with its tales of teenage love and sparkly-skinned vampires, is being revived with a series of short spin-off films, exclusively released via social networking site Facebook.
Unfortunately, we won’t be seeing much of Edward Cullen and Bella Swan as the film’s original stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are not expected to return to the social media screen. The mini-movies will instead feature fresh blood (put those fangs away…) and each focus on a different character from the story.
The five original shorts, titled The Storytellers – New Creative Voices of The Twilight Saga, will be helmed by a series of female directors with support from the Women in Film organisation.
Twilight author Stephanie Meyer and star Kristen Stewart will form part of a judging panel, alongside Kate Winslet, Octavia Spencer and Frozen director Jennifer Lee, who will choose the group of new directors.
“The female voice is something that has become more and more important to me as I’ve worked in the film industry,” said Meyer. “I’m honoured to be working with Women In Film, Lionsgate and Facebook on a project dedicated to giving more women a chance to be heard creatively.”
Based on Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling series, the five Twilight Saga movies were released between 2008 and 2012, becoming the 11th highest grossing film franchise of all time.
