Hunger Games: Listen to Lorde’s haunting Mockingjay soundtrack

The 17-year-old chart-topper has released a new single from her much anticipated Hunger Games soundtrack, titled Yellow Flicker Beat

The Hunger Games has just got a whole lot cooler.

17-year-old singing sensation Lorde has lent her haunting vocals to Mockingjay – Part 1, and she’s just released the first track online.

Lorde, the New Zealand-born singer who shot to fame with the hit singles Royals and Team, has curated the complete soundtrack to the upcoming film in the Hunger Games franchise, which will feature a number of hand picked artists as well as tracks crafted by Lorde herself.

Her new single Yellow Flicker Beat gives us a good taste of what to expect from the upcoming movie. The track, which is clearly inspired by The Girl on Fire – “red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart” – channels the Katniss’ kick-ass attitude with dark and lilting lyrics that include the words:

“I’m a princess cut from marble,smoother than a storm /
And the scars that mark my body, they’re silver and gold /
My blood is a flood of rubies, precious stones /
It keeps my veins hot, the fires find a home in me.”

Lorde posted audio to her new song on Twitter, taking to Tumblr to say: “It’s my first offering from what i hope will be a soundtrack you love. it’s my attempt at getting inside her head, katniss’. i hope you like it.”
