Scott Mills thanks Radio Times readers for voting him their Strictly cover star

The Radio 1 DJ beat Jennifer Gibney and Pixie Lott to become the first people's cover star in the magazine's 91-year history and is now on the front page of the RT digital edition

Scott Mills has posted a video message, thanking his fans for voting him and partner Joanne Clifton the first ever people’s Radio Times cover stars.

The Radio 1 DJ – who clocked up 30% of the vote – beat out stiff competition from Mrs Brown’s Boys actress Jennifer Gibney who scooped 25% of the 214,000 votes with pop star Pixie Lott coming in third with 17%.

Speaking to his 15,000 Instagram followers, Scott said he “can’t actually believe” he’s the first digital cover star voted for by the people in Radio Times’s 91-year history.

He continued, “I’m pleased, Joanne’s really pleased, my mum loves it, so thank you very much,” before promising to be “awesome” when the Strictly Come Dancing competition kicks off this Saturday at 7pm on BBC1.

Thanks everyone! A little message for you @bbcstrictly @radiotimes
