X Factor: Paloma Faith turned down judging role

The singer said she wasn't "emotionally equipped" for that level of fame

We already know that Cilla Black turned down an X Factor judging role – but it turns out she isn’t alone.

Yes, singer Paloma Faith, seen recently performing at the BBC proms, has also said she refused an offer for this year’s series of the singing competition.

“I turned it down because I don’t think I’m emotionally equipped to deal with the scrutiny and that level of celebrity that’s not about my music,” Faith tells the Mirror.

“Having people say things like ‘How can she tell that girl she can’t sing? She can’t f***ing sing.’ I couldn’t deal with that.”

Faith also revealed in the interview that she lied about her age to get a record deal.

“When I was asked what my age was in that first meeting, I blurted out 23, when I was actually 27,” she said.

“I remember reading about KT Tunstall being old, and she was 27 at the time. So I felt that everyone was going to focus on my age, not my music.”

She concluded: “I think if I’d said I was 27, I wouldn’t have got signed. One hundred per cent.”

The X Factor is on ITV tonight at 8.00pm
