Comic book powerhouse Marvel is reportedly in final discussions to shoot its latest movie in the UK. Pinewood Studios, near London, is in talks to host Marvel comic hero Doctor Strange in late 2014/ early 2105, according to ScreenDaily.
Based on a former neurosurgeon named Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange, the movie will follow the doctor as he meets a sorcerer, who teaches him how to defend the world against evil.
The Day the Earth Stood Still director, Scott Derrickson, will head up the project, and the scripts will be penned by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.
London is becoming quite the hotspot for fantasy movies, Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor: The Dark World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Guardians of the Galaxy have also filmed in London and at Shepperton studios.
Benedict Cumberbatch (who played villainous Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness) and Tom Hardy (who took on the role of evil Bane in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises) are rumoured to have been considered for the movie, while American A-listers Joaquin Phoenix and Johnny Depp may also bag a part in the film. The final cast is yet to be announced.
