Recent returnee Doug Potts is to set his sights on Diane Sugden (Elizabeth Estensen) in an upcoming episode after admitting that he still holds a torch for her.
Doug, who had a flirtation with the Woolpack landlady during his original time in the village, tells Ashley (John Middleton) of his plans to woo Diane back in scenes to be shown next week. So what does Doug have to do to win Diane’s trust?
“Diane blew him out in the first place. It wasn’t a matter of him blowing her out, it was kind of a mutual thing,” remembers actor Duncan Preston, who plays Doug. “Although in the end Diane came and said it’d be nice for them to give things a go, it wasn’t convincing enough for him to not have another go with his missus.”
Viewers will recall that Doug left in 2011 after deciding to reconcile with wife Hilary. But now that he’s back in the village, it seems that Doug has new romantic intentions:
“He has a little spark with Diane, but he tries to hide it and he’s quite surprised by it,” continues Preston. “Diane is also quite surprised by her feelings still being underneath the surface. They have a rapport – Diane has been on her own for a long time and he has too, really, And there’s always been that frisson between them.”
And how far would Doug go to win Diane over? “He’s going to try everything, but I don’t think he’s going to forsake his main principles to do it. But if it happens, he’ll be absolutely over the moon.”
