EastEnders star Jacqueline Jossa has revealed that her character Lauren Branning is to embark on a relationship with Peter Beale (Ben Hardy) during scenes to be shown this autumn.
“There’s some happy stuff coming up for Lauren. She’s finding love that’s been there all along, but which she didn’t know was there,” the actress told RadioTimes.com at the TV Choice awards. “I’ve been waiting for it for ages because it’s been building up. It’s young love and it’s quite cute. And Ben Hardy and I really get on so it’s been exciting to work together.”
The news follows a glimpse of upcoming drama in a BBC trailer that saw Lauren back in the arms of Peter despite having recently fallen for the charms of Dean Wicks. And as for whether Lauren will follow in the footsteps of the actress who plays her and get pregnant by the man in her life, Jossa said: “Who knows? Maybe. It would be cool!”
The 21-year-old, who is expecting a baby with TOWIE star Dan Osborne, also revealed that she would be around for the EastEnders 30th anniversary in February 2015 despite maternity leave being planned at some point. “I am going to be there, luckily. That was one of the main things I was worried about. I was thinking, ‘perfect timing, child!'”.
In the meantime, though, she’ll be glued to watching screen dad Jake Wood (who plays Max Branning) being put through his paces on Strictly Come Dancing. “I don’t think he would have done it if he was terrible. He cares too much about how he comes across and he wouldn’t want to ruin the image of Max Branning. And he does have good hips,” she said. “Let’s face it, they must be snake hips if he pulled Lucy Beale!”
And there was even a hint that she would consider taking part in a future series of Strictly herself: “I probably would do it – when I’m trying to lose the baby weight,” she laughed.
