As usual there are some familiar faces in the audition room at this year’s X Factor – and one to look out for is 20-year-old Steph Nala.
Steph isn’t a previous X Factor contestant. In fact, she was part of the four-piece band Luminities, who came fourth on 2013’s seventh series of Britain’s Got Talent.
The band was signed by Sony and Their single Do Something reached number 65 on the UK Singles Chart.
Their contract later ended but she says Simon has been “supportive of the whole band” made of up Steph, Jordan, Ben and Corey.
“Even in my re-audition Simon did say he loved the band,” Steph explains, although she admits that heaps on the pressure because she left a band he clearly liked.
Some of the boys have continued into their own solo work, others have explored different careers and Steph wanted to keep singing, too.
“The opportunity to do X Factor came along and I thought, what have I got to lose?” Steph says.
There are some big voices among the girls in the competition, and Steph admits she was worried she wouldn’t stand out. But it seems like she’s got the judges on side.
“They’re all amazing. I love Mel B. I know she’s harsh, but she says it how it is. She’s like the female Simon. Cheryl connects with you, she’ll warm to you. Simon is just like, the boss isn’t he? Louis Walsh is like me, a bit dopey.”
