When Bruce Forsyth announced his decision to retire from his Strictly Come Dancing hosting duties, you didn’t expect him to sneak away quietly, did you?
The veteran performer, who has presented Strictly’s Saturday night live instalments since the show’s inception in 2004, is poised to pass the presenting baton over to new host Claudia Winkleman in tonight’s episode.
Looking as sharp as ever in his Strictly suit, Brucie will appear in the series 12 launch show, which will see this year’s celebrity contestants paired up with their professional counterparts, alongside Winkleman and his former co-host Tess Daly before bidding the dancing competition farewell in what looks like typical Strictly style.
Forsyth announced the news that he was to hang up his dancing shoes back in April, saying: “After 10 wonderful years and 11 series, I believe it is now the right time to step down from the rigours of presenting the Strictly live shows. I am very proud of what the show has achieved and confident it will entertain the nation for many years to come.”
Tonight isn’t a final farewell to the show – 86-year-old Forsyth will be back to present the show’s Christmas and charity specials.
Strictly Come Dancing series 12 starts tonight at 8:00pm on BBC1
