EastEnders spoilers: Ryan Malloy makes surprise return to the BBC1 soap

Actor Neil McDermott made a brief non-speaking comeback in tonight's episode

Whitney’s brother Ryan Malloy (Neil McDermott) has made a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it reappearance on EastEnders. In scenes just broadcast on BBC1, Ryan made a fleeting return when he was seen keeping his distance as his sister Whitney (Shona McGarty) talked with Stacey (Lacey Turner).

Ryan is, of course, the estranged father of Stacey’s daughter Lily, who was seen accompanying her mum to the local park. Unbeknown to both Stacey and Lily, Ryan was just metres away while the group chatted.

The character hasn’t been seen in Walford since 2011 when he fled after accidentally killing Rob Grayson, a pimp who had duped and exploited Whitney. Ryan left Albert Square after Whitney unwittingly implicated him in Grayson’s death.

Rumours had been rife that Ryan was set for a comeback ever since Whitney started to receive text messages from her brother. And actress Shona McGarty would certainly be up for her on-screen sibling to return on a permanent basis:

“I’d love Ryan to come back!” she told Inside Soap. “Neil McDermott is a brilliant actor and a really good friend. It would be nice for Whit to have her brother around again.”
