James Barton’s (Bill Ward) runaway wife Emma is to be introduced to Emmerdale. The soap’s series producer Kate Oates confirmed today at a press event that the mother of Pete, Ross and Finn will be brought onto the show, hinting that she will bring chaos in her wake.
“Emma’s had a bit of a build-up, hasn’t she?” said Oates. “She’s the woman we haven’t seen and she’s a bit of a mystery at the moment. I think it’s safe to say that she is going to show up, possibly in the not-too-distant future She may cause chaos.”
Fans of the ITV soap have recently seen Finn start to search for his mum, with actor Joe Gill commenting recently about the reasons for his character’s desire to see her again: “Finn was very young when she left. He doesn’t remember what she sounds like, what she looks like or what type of person she is. And I think that’s why he’s so intrigued about her.”
Estranged mum Emma has so far only been heard on a family video arguing with husband James about a fling with his sister-in-law Moira. But her debut on the show will be sure to bring fresh tension to already fraught family relations.
