James Corden, Emily Blunt, Chris Pine and Anna Kendrick go Into the Woods – first look

Add Meryl Steep and Johnny Depp and these fairytales have got a seriously star-studded makeover...

Once upon a time Disney wove together the familiar fantasy stories of the Brothers Grimm and gave them a dark and twisted makeover.

Stephen Sondheim’s hit Broadway musical Into The Woods is being transformed for the cinema screen, with the help of Disney, as well as Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, James Corden, Emily Blunt, Chris Pine and Anna Kendrick (among many, many others…)

The first pictures from the film have been released, and show Kendrick playing Cinderella, while Pine play’s Prince Charming. Corden and Blunt star as a baker and his wife, Johnny Depp plays The Wolf and Streep is The Witch, while plenty of other famous faces bring the stories of Rapunzel and Jack (the one with the beanstalk) to life.

But will it be happily ever after in fairytale land? More like happily never after.

Disney’s new fairytale film has a much darker (and funnier) edge to it than the animated tales we know and love, picking up after the merry endings of the Brothers Grimm’s stories.

The film follows the Baker and his wife who discover they have been put under a curse by the Witch, rendering them forever childless, so they embark on a life changing adventure into the woods to seek out items needed to lift the curse…

Into The Woods will be in UK cinemas on 9 January 2015
