Peter Capaldi’s Doctor Who debut to screen in cinemas around the world

Take a Deep Breath… Peter Capaldi’s opening Doctor Who episode is coming not just to a TV screen near you, but to cinemas around the globe.


The series eight opener the new Doctor’s first full episode will be shown in 1,500 movie theatres worldwide from 23rd August, the day Capaldi makes his full debut on BBC1.

The news follows the success of the Doctor Who 50th anniversary episode The Day of the Doctor, which was screened in 3D in the same number of cinemas last November, selling over half a million tickets and earning $3 million in the US alone.

“Last November the Doctor didn’t just conquer the world on television, he did it in the cinemas too,” said Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat. “And like the show-off he is, he can’t resist another go one taste of the silver screen is never enough. On August 23rd the new Doctor will begin his new adventures on BBC1 and in cinemas all over the world. Movie-land beware  Capaldi is coming to get you!”


Timings for international screenings are yet to be revealed but in the UK the episode is expected to be shown in cinemas in a simulcast with the television airing.
