Dakota Johnson, the 24-year-old actress who plays Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey, will be swapping racy romance for heart-wrenching tragedy as the female lead Elsie in Forever, Interrupted.
Based on “Forever, Interruped: A Novel” by Taylor Jenkins Reid, the story follows Elsie as she comes to terms with the death of her husband, who she met in a whirlwind romance, and her subsequent unlikely relationship with his mother.
Producer Amy Baer of Gidden media is confident that Johnson’s screen presence and the novel’s “exquisitely written and heart-wrenchingly honest” story will be a winning combination. “Dakota will be exquisite as Elsie, who has to deal with the sudden loss of a great love,” Baer told Variety. “She is a deeply thoughtful, sensitive and smart woman and actress.”
Johnson will also be turning her hand to a spot of executive producing, alongside Nathan Kahane and Joe Drake of Good Universe, and John Middleton and Roy Lee.
Kahane said, “We’re thrilled that Dakota has come on board as a partner in the film, not only starring, but also taking an active role behind the camera in helping us shape the film.”
Johnson has just completed production of Dark Mass alongside Johnny Depp and Benedict Cumberbatch, and can next be seen on screen in Fifty Shades of Grey on 14 February this year.
