Doctor Who: Cybermen spotted on set with Peter Capaldi and Michelle Gomez

A set picture from Doctor Who series eight shoot in Wales shows some familiar faces alongside the new Doctor

It’s been like a Doctor Who series eight news buffet over the past few days. There’s been a new trailer – “Am I a good man?” – which gave us just a snippet more of new Doctor Peter Capaldi talking to Jenna Coleman’s companion Clara. It revealed that the show would be back on 23 August and confirmed that the first episode would be called Deep Breath.

Then came the fan reactions. Both on Twitter and in the form of a cool homemade trailer utilising the new audio of Capaldi.

Today, Who news rolled on with the confirmation that Bad Education’s Michelle Gomez was joining the cast as the Gatekeeper of the Nethersphere. Showrunner Steven Moffat says, “She’s everything we need – brilliant, Scottish, and a tiny bit satanic.” Gomez herself says she’s thrilled to be cast alongside the new Doctor. “Well, you would be wouldn’t you?”

And now the official Doctor Who Twitter page has shared a picture from the set with the rather eerie message “Look who’s back…” Who is back, you may ask? Well, a whole bunch of Cybermen can be seen behind Capaldi and Gomez, who are standing arm in arm, looking at the camera.

They’re shooting in Cardiff city centre and it’s believed they’re filming scenes for the finale.

It almost feels like we should yell, “They’re behind you!” But we’re sure the Time Lord’s got it all under control.

Doctor Who series eight starts on 23 August 2014 on BBC1
