Splash! is sunk by ITV after two series

The televised diving contest fronted by Tom Daley will not return for a third series thanks to the Olympic bronze medalist's training commitments

ITV have called time on Tom Daley-fronted entertainment show Splash! after two series.

The televised diving contest – which attracted the likes of Joey Essex and Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards – scored decent ratings during its first series but a second run in 2013 failed to reach the dizzy heights of the high board.

According to an insider at ITV, Olympic bronze medalist and Splash! coach Daley’s diving commitments contributed to the decision to sink the show. “A third series was always hanging in the balance because availability was always going to be a problem and of course Tom’s diving career is going to come first,” said the source.

“We always knew that this commitments to training for Rio would rightly come first but we love having him on the channel and are looking at other projects for him.”

The news follows the announcement last month that the Olympian’s travelogue Tom Daley Goes Global would not be back for a second series. The six-part show saw the Olympic diver backpacking around Australia, Thailand, New Zealand, Japan and Morocco with his best pal Sophie Lee on a gap-year adventure.
