Tom Cruise to join cast of Star Wars VII?

Tom Cruise is reportedly being considered for a cameo role in JJ Abrams’ upcoming Star Wars VII movie.

The director has been a producer on the Mission: Impossible films in which Cruise stars, and is reportedly keen to work with him again.

“Tom has been in London for over a week and met up with JJ and some other people from Star Wars at the weekend,” a source tells the Sun.

“On Saturday evening five of them met up for dinner and drinks at the Belgravia Hotel… [Abrams] loves working with Tom whenever he gets the chance.”

Cruise’s latest film, Edge of Tomorrow, saw him fending off an alien invasion, so perhaps another space-themed film is a good fit for the star.

Mission: Impossible 5 will of course be keeping Cruise busy, as he returns to the role of agent Ethan Hunt. However, he’s filming sections of the movie in the British Parliament, a handy crossover perhaps, given that Star Wars is filming in the UK’s Pinewood Studios?

Cruise wouldn’t be the only new face on the Star Wars cast list, with Oscar-winning Lupita Nyong’o and Game of Thrones’ Gwendoline Christie also signed up recently.

Star Wars Episode VII is expected in cinemas next year.
