Vikings series 3 begins filming on Blessington Lake in Ireland

The History Channel's ancient Scandinavian drama series has started shooting in Wicklow

Viking long boats were spotted on the moody Blessington Lake in Ireland this week, according to locals and Twitter users.

Series one and two of Vikings were both shot on the emerald Isle, at Ashford Studios in Wicklow, and hundreds of local crew, actors and extras have been involved in the production.

Ex-Calvin Klein model Travis Fimmel, who plays Ragnar Lothbrok in the show, was recently seen smoking in between a scene on one of the boats on Blessington Lake.

Meanwhile, bodies dripping with blood were also seen hanging from the trees at the lake’s edge.

The dramatic history series follows viking hero Ragnar Lothbrok, and his family, as he attempts to become the king of the viking tribes. As well as having the body of an ancient Scandi warrior, Lothbrok is believed to be a descendant of Odin, the god of war.

The third season of Vikings is set to air in early 2015. Seasons one and two are available via Amazon Instant Video.
