Tucked away in a quiet cul-de-sac just minutes away from Piccadilly, Green Park and the bustling streets of Mayfair, you could easily imagine you weren’t in London at all when you arrive at this beautiful, tranquil 5 star residence in one of the capital’s most desirable postcode districts.
The history of this grand hotel and club dates back to the middle of the nineteenth century when a English Earl and a Spanish Minister founded the club after falling out with the owners of their own London hangout. Thanks to its incredible location it soon became one of the most popular clubs in London and has throughout the years been a regular haunt of Henry James, Winston Churchill and James Bond creator Ian Flemming. In more recent years, the club has continued to attract the great and the good, with the likes of Michael Caine, Sean Connery and Samuel L Jackson all regular visitors.
And when you stay at the St James’s Club, you can soon see why it has throughout its history been a magnet to high-end clients.
Beyond its location to die for, the hotel is 5 star boutique with a capital B. Every inch of the property has been carefully crafted to ensure a pleasant sensory experience – and every effort made by the staff and designers to ensure luxury and comfort are always order of the day.
You can’t help feel like you’ve “made it” as you ascend in the lift to your tranquil, tastefully decorated suite – complete with views of the quiet street below, and just a hint of London at the end of the street as taxis and buses murmur past.
Despite retaining a traditional feel with hints of history about the rooms, the hotel is an ultra modern environment filled with art and technology that entertains and inspires its guests. With a large beautifully fitted marble bathroom offering separate walk in shower and bath – and all the high-end toiletries you could wish for, this is a hotel experience you will not forget.
Friendly staff perfectly tread that fine line between being attentive and obtrusive – always there when you need them, but never in your way when you just want to explore alone.
The St James’s Club is a hidden gem in the very beating heart of Britain’s great capital – isn’t it time you booked that luxurious weekend away?
Eating and drinking
Seven Park Place by William Drabble opened in 2009 and was awarded a Michelin star just a year later – as well as carrying four AA rosettes. Serving fine French cuisine made with the best British ingredients, this intimate and luxurious restaurant environment is one of the more exclusive fine dining experiences you’ll find in a central London hotel.
William’s Bar and Bistro offers a selection of meals as well as being the place to sit back, grab a cocktail, and relax of an evening after a hard day of sightseeing and enjoying London. The venue at the front of the hotel is where breakfast is served – and is also the location that guests can enjoy the hotel and club’s famous afternoon tea. How very British.
