The Frida actress has arrived in Sofia, where she will film a movie about the Islamic revolution in Iran

Bulgaria will double for Iran in Salma Hayek’s Septembers of Shiraz. Movie cast and crew have landed in the capital of Sofia, in preparation for the shoot.

Australian director and actor Wayne Blair (Dead Gorgeous) will follow the tale of Dalia Sofer’s award-winning novel about the 1979 Islamic revolution in Iran.

Fans and photographers caught Hayek at the airport in Sofia. “I will stay here for a while, this is my first time in Bulgaria,” said the star, who will play alongside The Pianist actor Adrien Brody in the movie. The film will also star Iranian actor Shohreh Aghdashloo (X-Men: The Last Stand, The Lake House) and Bulgarian actor Bashar Rahal (The Tournament).

Pierce Brosnan will also be filming a movie in Bulgaria. The James Bond actor is set to star in Survivor with Emma Thompson (Sense and Sensibility), Milla Jovovich (The Fifth Element) and Angela Bassett (Malcolm X).

Septembers of Shiraz is set for release in 2015.
