wins two Online Media Awards

The website's "truly noteworthy achievement" was recognised at last night's awards ceremony where won Best Lifestyle/Leisure News Site and the prestigious Chairman's Award won two prizes at last night’s Online Media Awards in central London.

The site was awarded best Lifestyle/Leisure News Site, beating off competition from the Financial Times,, Company,, The Guardian and Yahoo.

The prestigious Chairman’s Award, an award for “truly noteworthy achievement”, was also presented to the website.

“As a newspaper delivery boy some 60 year ago I once struggled on a weekly basis with a magazine which was a true giant of the British media scene,” said Chairman of the panel of judges Noel Young,

“You might think it would have been swallowed up in the rush of online media. Instead it has increased its firepower.”

“Alongside the 90-year-old original print magazine – still a giant – a dynamic online version has been created with a distinct voice and a younger audience.

“It has just had a record-breaking year, up by 36 percent increasing its monthly unique users to 3.77 million. And  music to management ears – becoming profitable for the first time in its 16-year history.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the chairman’s award for a truly noteworthy achievement goes to A blast from the past which still makes its presence felt every week on the British magazine front.”

(Needless to say there are plenty of sore heads in the office this morning…)
