The Circle of Life continues and so does The Lion King. Disney have announced plans for a new spin-off series, twenty years after the original first roared into cinemas.
The Lion Guard – a new television movie – will air in the States in autumn 2015 with plans to produce a subsequent series in early 2016 on the Disney Junior and Disney Channel, although details of a UK broadcast are yet to be revealed.
The new story will focus on Kion, the second-born cub of Simba and Nala who assembles a group of his close friends to preserve the Pride Lands.
But for any fans mourning the omission of your favourite characters, fear not. The show will also include special appearances from Timon, Pumbaa, Rafiki, Zazu, Simba’s first-born Kiara and his deceased father Mufasa (we’re not yet sure how they’ll wangle that one…)
The Lion Guard stories will focus on conservation education and the importance of family and community, according to Disney, as well as highlighting creative problem-solving skills and diversity.
Hmm, not too similar to the original, then. Nevertheless, a new instalment of The Lion King gives us ample opportunity to relive this. We recommend you do, too…
