The man accused of striking Brad Pitt at the Maleficent premiere earlier this week is facing criminal charges according to prosecutors in Los Angeles.
Pitt was signing autographs on the red carpet when Ukrainian TV reporter Vitalii Sediuk allegedly jumped over a barrier and hit actor in his face. Police have not said whether Pitt was punched or slapped.
Sediuk was quickly apprehended and taken to LA’s Hollywood jail where he is understood to remain.
A protection order has already been issued meaning that Sediuk is barred from going near Pitt and prosecutors are understood to be already seeking an order banning him from future LA entertainment industry events.
Sediuk is undertood to have been fired from Ukrainian television channel 1+1 before the incident.
He is known for red carpet pranks around the world, including kissing Will Smith in Moscow and hugging Leonardo DiCaprio and Bradley Cooper around the knees at separate events earlier this year.
Sediuk was fired from his reporter job with after he jumped under actress America Ferrera’s dress on a Cannes red carpet on May 17, a spokesman for 1+1 told CNN.
