BGT: Simon Cowell is sitting pretty with the only Golden Buzzer act in the final

The Britain’s Got Talent final is filling up with top talent, but only one of the judges’ Golden Buzzer acts has made it through… and of course it's Mr Cowell’s

The new Golden Buzzer format couldn’t have gone any better for Simon Cowell, could it? BGT introduced its shiny new toy this year, with one press meaning an act skipped the second round selection process and was straight into the live semi-finals.

All four judges – Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden, David Walliams and Simon Cowell – as well as hosts Ant and Dec got the chance to push the Golden Buzzer once. Backing, so they thought, a potential winner.

But, here we are, one semi-final away from the final and only one Golden Buzzer has made it – Simon Cowell’s singing and rapping duo Charlie and Leondre, aka Bars and Melody.

Of course, poor Amanda’s Golden Buzzer choice – Paddy and her dance partner Nico – didn’t actually get a chance to perform. The 79-year-old hurt her rib while rehearsing and on medical advice was forced to leave the competition.

Meanwhile, Walliams’s act Christian Spridon and his high-energy performance of Raining Men fell by the wayside, as did Dixon’s girl group REAformed. Ant and Dec’s comedy act Toju raised a few laughs, but not enough votes. In fact, all three failed to earn a spot in the top three of their respective semi-finals.

But, it’s not too surprising that Cowell is ruling the Golden Buzzer roost is it? It’s Simon Cowell. When, really, does he actually get it wrong? We may boo and hiss, but usually he’s right.

One Direction, Susan Boyle, Leona Lewis… all top reality show exports, all under Cowell’s Syco banner.

Charlie and Leondre aren’t just in the final either, they won their semi-final heat last night. The lads saw off competition from dance groups Innova Irish Dance Company and Light Balance, profusely thanking fans and Simon for the support.

Cowell also packed the young duo off to the States to speak to chat show host Ellen DeGeneres whose backing of the boys during last night’s show has no doubt helped.

But can BAM go all the way to scoop the title and glory for Cowell? Boy band Collabro may have something to say about that – they’re the current bookies’ favourites. And of course, we’re yet to find out who the Wild Card act is – maybe a Golden Buzzer act will return…
