My Big Fat Greek Wedding is getting a sequel

Twelve years after the first film, the Portokalos family is heading back to the big screen

Nia Vardalos is penning a brand new sequel to My Big Fat Greek Wedding, 12 years after the original film hit our screens.

Vardalos will return to her role as love-struck Toula Portokalos and John Corbett will be back as her hubby from the first film, Ian Miller.

Rumours about the plot suggest another wedding brings the gang back together. Vardalos herself tweeted that the “entire big fat family is invited back for the sequel”.

Perhaps the couple have moved into the world of parenthood, as Vardalos marks her own children as her inspiration.

“Now that I’m experiencing motherhood, I’m ready to write the next chapter of my family story,” she said on Twitter.

“A few jaded folks in the press corps will claim I ran out of money or just want to kiss John Corbett again. One of these things is true.”

Vardalos earned an Oscar nomination for the first script, so expect another bucket-load of belly laughs.
