What’s happened to our floppy-haired, bow tie-wearing Raggedy Man? Matt Smith’s put his Converse to one side, shaved his head and undergone a full metamorphosis to star in Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut Lost River.
The first clip from the upcoming flick has debuted online and features the former Doctor Who actor, topless, wearing sparkly things and, er, rapping about his muscles.
Details of Gosling’s film – previously titled How To Catch a Monster – have been pretty scarce up till now, and based on this footage we still don’t know much. Co-starring Christina Hendricks as single mother Billy and Ian De Caestecker as her son Bones, the film sees the pair “swept into a macabre and dark fantasy world” after he discovers a secret world leading to an underwater town.
Smith plays Bully alongside Saoirse Ronan, Eva Mendes and Ben Mendelsohn. Premiering at the Cannes Film Festival this week, the film is yet to get a UK release date so you’ll have to wait a while longer to see the full extent of Smith’s musical talents (and muscles) on screen.
