It’s got to be Ant and Dec. Having your best friend by your side to laugh at your jokes and finish your sentences is such a luxury. They make the viewer feel so incredibly comfortable and relaxed watching them.
What makes the perfect co-host?
Someone you can trust. A co-host is like a safety net. And I couldn’t have asked for a more capable, accomplished co-host on Strictly for the past ten years than Bruce Forsyth. Standing by the side of a TV legend is without doubt a gift.
Would your husband Vernon Kay be a good replacement?
We worked together on a BBC show called Just the Two of Us and it was good fun as we were so comfortable together. But there is that danger of over-familiarity, where you find yourself snapping and thinking, “Sorry, forgot! Thought we were at home for a minute!” I think he’d be a great contestant, though – he’s a great dancer – I’ll have a word with him about it later!
Who should win RT’s Audience Award?
I’m a fan of Bake Off because it’s like a warm cup of tea; it’s feel-good, put-your-feet-up television. I also love Mary Berry, she’s such a lady. I’ve got all of her books.
British Academy Television Awards are on Sunday 18 May at 8:00pm on BBC1.
