David Tennant: Gracepoint ending will be “different” to Broadchurch

The American remake of the ITV drama will NOT play out the same way - but its star still doesn't know the identity of the killer...

Any Broadchurch fans who’ve watched the first trailer of US remake Gracepoint would be hard pushed not to notice the striking similarities between the two versions. With a string of identical characters – many of whom share the same name or, in David Tennant’s case, the same face – It begs the question is Gracepoint going to play out exactly the same way as it’s British equivalent?

But the simple answer is no. According to Tennant, who plays Detective Emmett Carver (that’s the American equivalent to his DI Alec Hardy) the ending will not feature the same outcome as Broadchurch which saw (SPOILER ALERT) DS Ellie Miller’s husband Joe admit to killing schoolboy Danny Latimer.

“I don’t quite know where it’s all going,” revealed Tennant, who is still filming the ten-part remake for Fox in British Colombia. “The ending is going to be different. So long as it doesn’t turn out that I did it…”

The fact that the he is still in the dark as to the killer’s identity echoes the cast’s experience on ITV’s Broadchurch where writer Chris Chibnall kept Tennant, Olivia Colman and their co-stars guessing until filming on the final episode.

Gracepoint also stars Anna Gunn, Jacki Weaver and Nick Nolte and will begin airing in the US on Thursdays at 9pm. In the meantime, take a look at a selection of newly-released images below…
