Doctor Who: Billie Piper, Karen Gillan and Jenna Coleman; Get the Look – your TV fashion guide

Want to get the look of the Doctor’s leading ladies? Our style guru Kim Atkins offers her top tips for adapting and re-creating the looks of three of the show's most recent companions

Billie Piper

Billie Piper is undoubtedly my favourite companion – however, her style looks a bit dated now as it’s nearly 10 years since Rose first appeared on our screens. But don’t be dismayed, there are some great elements that we can take from her look and modernise for an on-trend outfit. Rose was very casual and quite sporty, which is great as the Sports Luxe trend has been fashionable for a fair few seasons now. This is definitely a style that I am influenced by and I want to inject a bit more of it into my everyday wear.

Here are my top picks for getting a Billie-inspired Sport Luxe look:

Izabel Printed Floral Bomber Jacket £24, Clarice Price Thomas, Silver Tick Earrings at The Individual £198, Gwens Colour Block Wedge Sandal Dune £69, Slim Leg Colette trousers Jaeger £99, W Feather Jacket Helly Hanson £80, Leather Sandals H&M £29.99.

The key idea here is to keep the colour pallet the same as Billie’s, but change the shapes and add in new accessories to update the look. Starting with a classic black slim leg trouser we can then build from there. I am an advocate of spending a little more on the items that will get a lot of wear, as they will really be much better value for money in the long run. I would then go for a cropped black sleeveless polo neck (like this one), which will continue the sporty vibe. I have gone two ways with the look from there; the first option is to make it smarter and workable for the office or for drinks. A good pair of heels will make this transition easier and these wedges from Dune will work perfectly with the overall look. Dune has a whole collection up at the moment focused on sport style shoes, which you can see here. The second option is to focus on the sporty vibe, which I actually prefer. The leather sandals from H&M are perfect for this option and the chunky sole shoe is really big this Spring Summer.

Karen Gillan

Karen Gillan as Amy Pond has a really easy and versatile style to work with. Perfect for a dress down Friday or a weekend daytime look. I really like this particular outfit and have tried to find similar alternatives here. This is a great look for a young woman in her twenties, and for thirties up I would swap the raincoat for a classic trench coat or a navy blazer depending on the season, and classic ballet pump shoes.

Here are my picks to replicate Karen’s classic look:

Baxter Skinny Jeans Topshop £40, White Enamel Bangle Watch Principles by Ben Di Lisi Debenhams £40, In the Shadows Monochrome pendant Jane Harrison at The Individual £60, Gold and Turquoise Bezel necklace Lily King at The Individual £24, Button shoulder stripe Breton Jersey Jaeger £60,  Hooded Lightweight Jacket Topshop £45, Tan Leather Brogues J Shoes £110.

I really do like Topshop jeans, I know they may not work for everyone as jeans are so individual for your shape – but do give them a go. These Baxter jeans are great as they’re still very slim fitting but they are a real jean rather than being the stretch fit version, so if you want something a bit comfier you might be happier in the Leigh style jeans. A classic Breton stripe top should be in every woman’s wardrobe, you never know when you might be whisked away to Paris for the weekend! I couldn’t decide between these two necklaces, so hey I chose both! The Individual is a great online jewellery boutique; championing British designers that you wont see anywhere else, so do check it out for something unique and at very good prices.

Jenna Coleman

Clara is the current companion and will be seen alongside the new Doctor, Peter Capaldi, again this autumn. This outfit is seen in filming for the new series, so this look might be best to keep under your hat until the beginning of autumn winter season. It is another easy to wear style that will be very versatile and can be worn for work or at the weekend.

Here are my selections for getting Jenna’s style:

Crew cardigan Next £18-£30, Diamond cut out Necklace Topshop £10, Flower Embroid Blouse Soma London £38, Tartan Skort Lasula £24, All Yours Ankle Boots Topshop £80.

This look is simple, and with these key pieces, very easy to put together. I really love this blouse from Soma London. It looks so delicate and feminine which works really well with the bolder style coming from the skort, boots and necklace. A skort is the perfect way to get the short style you are after, but keeping it sensible for work – and this one from Lasula is really great value. Out of shot I noticed that Jenna is wearing these boots from Topshop, which were a massive hit over the last winter season but are virtually all sold out now. However, do not despair! Topshop have brought out an almost identical boot, but with a cut out detail to bring them up to date for the next season.
