New comedy crime caper Plastic follows a group of university students who become credit card thieves to supplement their income.
The Julian Gilbey-directed movie boasts an ensemble cast of rising British stars from Will Poulter and Downton Abbey’s Ed Speleers to Game of Thrones’ Alfie Allen, Sebastian de Souza and Emma Rigby. Here’s where you might have seen the gang before…
In Plastic, 26-year-old Speleers plays a brazen university student turned credit card fraudster, but you might be more used to seeing him in suit and bowtie as suave footman Jimmy Kent in Downton Abbey. Speleers has appeared in the period drama since 2012 and it’s safe to say Grantham House is a million miles away from the dark world of criminal activity explored in Plastics. Still trying to put your finger on where you’ve seen Speleers before? The actor also appeared as Jimmy Penwarden in ITV’s short-lived Echo Beach in 2008, alongside Jason Donovan and Martine McCutheon.
Bafta Rising Star-winner Will Poulter has well and truly broken into the world of movies with recent appearances in high-profile projects such as The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and hit comedy We’re the Millers, but the actor has previously graced the small screen with his work on School of Comedy. Poulter had viewers up and down the UK chuckling as a variety of characters in the British sketch show between 2008 and 2010.
Alfie Allen has long been recognised as the brother of singer Lily and the son of actor Keith, but while he’s had several smaller roles over the years, one particular TV phenomenon has made the youngest Allen a star in his own right. Since 2011, Allen has appeared as Theon Greyjoy in HBO mega-hit Game of Thrones – a part which has catapulted him into worldwide fame and a life his Plastic character, heist accomplice Yatesy, could only ever dream of.
Sebastian De Souza
Sebastian De Souza makes his full-length theatrical debut in Plastics as heist accomplice Rafa, but he kicked off his acting career on E4’s teen-drama Skins. As part of the show’s third and final generation cast, De Souza appeared as Matty Levan in the Bristol-based series between 2011 and 2012. The star then went on to join the cast of Emmy award-winning historical drama The Borgias, playing Alfonso of Aragon until the show’s end in 2013.
Emma Rigby stars as beautiful new recruit Frankie in Plastic but you might recognise her as Hannah Ashworth from Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks. Rigby played the Ashworth family’s middle child between 2007 and 2010, and was praised for her portrayal of her character’s eating disorder storyline. Across the pond in the US, Rigby recently appeared as The Red Queen in ABC fantasy series Once Upon a Time. The 24-year-old has also starred in BBC1 drama Prisoners’ Wives.
