Ellen DeGeneres Oscars selfie ‘worth $1 billion’

Yep, that's a BILLION. With a B. Seriously.

At this point, it’s near impossible that you haven’t seen the now-famous Ellen DeGeneres Oscar selfie. The photo, which also features Jennifer Lawrence, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep, to name but a few, broke the record for most retweeted photo of all time, garnering almost 3.5 million retweets. Since then, it’s spawned numerous parodies, including Simpsons and balloon form.

Maurice Levy, a marketing representative for Samsung, who says his team handled the product placement of the Samsung phone used to take the selfie, told a crowd at the MIPTV marketing conference that he calculates the shot to be worth between $800 million and $1 billion for the company, thanks to the 37 million people who viewed the tweet, and the other 43 million worldwide who saw the photo being taken during the Oscars.

And we thought Hollywood blockbusters were all about moving pictures…
