Harry Potter actress Julie Walters shoots new romance-drama in Ireland with Saoirse Ronan

Brooklyn is based on an Irish immigrant who makes the journey to New York in the 1950s

Saoirse Ronan (Atonement), Domhnall Gleeson (About Time), Emory Cohen (The Place Beyond the Pines), Jim Broadbent (Moulin Rouge) and Julie Walters (Harry Potter) begin filming the BBC Film, Parallel Films and Item 7 co-produced movie – Brooklyn.

Filming has started in the scenic town of Enniscorthy in County Wexford, Ireland, and will continue for three weeks. Brooklyn will also film in Dublin and then cast and crew will move to Montreal in Canada in late April for around a month.

Based on Nick Hornby’s adaptation of Colm Toibin’s novel (of the same name), and set in the 1950s, Brooklyn follows a young Irish woman named Ellis Lacey (played by Ronan) as she makes her way to the Big Apple. In New York she falls in love and has to choose between her new life in America or her Irish roots.

Brooklyn is set for release in 2015
