Sherlock makes Captain America’s to-do list – thanks to users

Well done everyone! You voted to feature Benedict Cumberbatch's BBC detective in Captain America: The Winter Soldier

After missing nearly 70 years of pop culture due to being frozen in ice, Captain America has a lot of catching up to do.  But what should he watch first? Well, according to the recommendation of users: Sherlock. A recommendation that he’s added to his to-do.

Yep, back in January, gave you the chance to vote for what British TV show should get the chance to be featured in the UK version of Marvel sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Winning with 38% of the vote, Benedict Cumberbatch’s sleuth narrowly beat Doctor Who (which got 37%) to be one of the historical events that Steve Rogers has on his list of things to check out in the modern world.

See the full list is below (Sherlock is at the top.)

The hit BBC detective show crops up early on in the sequel to 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, where the iconic Marvel superhero, played by Chris Evans, finds himself in an ice coma until he ‘s woken up in the modern world and takes part in the events of 2012’s Avengers Assemble. Let’s hope that he gets some spare time to sit down with A Study In Pink soon, eh?

Beyond Sherlock, the list is pretty UK-centric; with additions such as The Beatles and England’s win in the 1966 world cup differing from the US edit (below), which features TV show I Love Lucy, the fall of the Berlin Wall and Apple pioneer Steve Jobs. Curiously, however, Star Wars is crossed out on the US version – inferring that he had already caught up on Disney’s new franchise…

Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which also features Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L Jackson is out now in the UK.
