Netflix has added a string of BBC dramas to its database, including hit shows Sherlock and Call the Midwife – the first time either have been available to watch on the online streaming service.
The first two series of Sherlock – starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman – and Call the Midwife, both big hitters for the Beeb, are available for users to view from today.
Also snapped up by Netflix is the first series of The Last Tango in Halifax. Starring Anne Reid and Derek Jacobi as elderly couple Celia and Alan who find love on Facebook, the drama was a surprise success for the broadcaster when it was first launched on BBC1 last year.
And finally, the entire sixth series of Doctor Who, including the Christmas special, A Christmas Carol, featuring Michael Gambon, has been added to the Netflix library. The first five series of the BBC’s sci-fi drama have already found a home on the online service, with episodes from season six – starring Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill – available for Whovians to enjoy from today.
