Only 40-minutes from Manchester and Liverpool, this charming hotel on the edge of Chester offers a welcoming and relaxed place to rest and rejuvenate.
Set within 12-acres of landscaped gardens, this 18th Century country mansion has been beautifully and sympathetically updated to become a contemporary hotel and spa.
Every part of the hotel has been designed with comfort and convenience in mind; from the large, light reception area with friendly staff and access to all of the hotels major facilities, to the quiet well-appointed guestrooms with large comfortable beds and ample room for you, your family… and your luggage.
Each room has a first-class bathroom (and if you get a chance – check out the enormous shower in the Presidential Suite!), a good array of technology (including free Wi-Fi throughout) – and is well presented in calming neutral colours.
But you won’t want to spend too much time in your room, because otherwise you’d be missing out on time in the really very good spa – it’s even got 5 bubbles from the Good Spa Guide. As well as offering a range of treatments (my wife tells me the massages are very good) including aromatherapy, the spa is home to a number of different steam room experiences, a decent size pool, an indoor/ outdoor hot pool and a sauna. All of this in beautiful low light seemingly a million miles from the modern world – you won’t want to leave.
The hotel is extremely accommodating to guests of all ages. We travelled with a small baby, and not only did the staff spend a great deal of time making sure she was attended to, the hotel was equipped in every situation to deal with our needs.
A truly indulgent oasis on the doorstep of the beautiful city of Chester – no wonder this hotel is such a popular fixture, and a regular spot for stylish celebrations and weddings all-year around.
Eating and drinking
When you’re indulging yourself in luxury in the countryside – an essential ingredient is some good food and some fine wine… luckily this Chester hotel has both in abundance.
The Marco Pierre White Steakhouse is a very relaxed and welcoming place to eat. Surrounded by sumptuous leather and velvet sofa, you can choose from a – as you might expect- meat heavy menu filled with classic dishes, each with a little MPW twist. The restaurant has a very friendly and courteous staff who go out of their way to make you and your guests feel at home throughout your dinner.
Don’t forget to sample the excellent wine list, or try one of the restaurant’s trademark cocktails during your time there.
The hotel also has a very good brasserie and lounge that caters for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Part of the restaurant is situated under a conservatory which in the summer months is opened to allow al fresco dining in the beautiful walled dining. The extensive menu offers something for all tastes and is open throughout the day for your convenience.
The adjacent bar is a great place to unwind with a book after dinner, or have a quiet coffee during the day.
