Doctor Who studios to open doors to the public for special effects masterclass

The workshop in Cardiff is just one of several open door events around the country in support of Radio 4's Character Invasion Day

Doctor Who fans lucky (or determined) enough to be in Cardiff on Saturday 29 March, will be able to take part in a special effects workshop, as the BBC studio where the series is filmed opens its doors to the public.

Neill Gorton, director of Bafta-winning Millenium FX, will provide an insight into how some of the best-loved monsters and aliens from Doctor Who and Russell T Davies’s Wizards vs Aliens are created.

It’s just one of a number of live events around the country supporting Radio 4’s Character Invasion Day, which will see well-loved creations including Dawn French’s Vicar of Dibley and characters from Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy taking over the airwaves.

At BBC HQ in Salford, CBBC viewers can meet the casts of MI High, Wolfblood and The Dumping Ground, while in Birmingham, fans of The Archers will be introduced to the faces behind the voices and discover just how the village of Ambridge is created using only sound.
